This is one of my all time favorite meals here in Spain: la tortilla española, jamón serrano y queso manchego. The tortilla is basically a potato omelet or frittata, the ham is thinly sliced and just slightly spicy and the manchego is a firm tangy cheese.

Some interesting graffiti stenciling (does anyone else think stenciling is cheating when it comes to graffiti art?)

It's true, here you can buy your eggs and bread and what nots...This little mini market is in the corner of La plaza de trinidad, or more commonly referred to as Plaza de Birdpoop due to all the birds that inhabit the area, making noise almost 24 hours a day (the only time I didn't hear them was when it was freezing outside...) and leaving their very distinct mark on the ground.

Cherry blossom tree! In Granada...I always have a hard time believing I'm seeing these outside of Japan...
Some neat graffitti on the outside of a middle school's playground. It's a really pretty area too.

I know...I know! I'm falling behind. But my excuse is it is COLD and WINDY and rainy and I don't want to be outside any longer than I have to.

So, originally I chose this photo for today...
But since I already put that in the main blog, I will add this photo:
This is a photo of an Artesanía or a Moroccan import store. There are hundreds all over the city and have pretty neat stuff. Always so brightly colored and many smell good from incenses.

Sorry, no photo today, I just didn't leave the apartment out of exhaustion. But this won't happen too many more times!

Just a crazy dude who pretended(was he?) to be talking on this phone that came out of a briefcase. He was waving and saying hi to the people who passed by. He then proceeded to walk exaggeratedly off! Always can find interesting people in the city...

Today I went on a four hour hike in the park above the Alhambra and it's gardens - La Dehesa de Generalife. This is a picture from one of the look outs. It is of the Abadía de Sacromonte where Saint Cecilio was tortured and martyred by the Moors for his Christian beliefs. Today it is mostly abandoned with only 50% of it being used. There are catacombs underground and you can take a 3 euro tour everyday at 1:30pm.

This here is our dear friend Yehuda Ibn Tibon, a very scolarly medic, poet, philosopher, and translator. He was also a Moor, as in a Muslim from Northern Africa. He lived during the reign of the Moors over Granada, between the years 1120 and 1190. It wasn't until 1492 (yes, the same year as Crístobal Colón sailing the ocean blue) when the Muslims, then later the Jews, were kicked out of all of Spain or forced to convert. Today, though, he is still remembered and honored with this lovely bronze statue and, just recently, a aula or room in El centro de lenguas modernas (the CLM where I study).
You see his golden feet? That's because so many people have rubbed them, for the local legend goes it will give you knowledge and luck. (Have I touched them yet? No, every time I'm tempted too I just can't help but think of all the germs and disgustingness that must be on those feet. EVERYONE touches them. They've turned gold from the polishing. Maybe one day...)

Two photos here, but really the first one is the official Foto del día. (And I almost lost these because I took the pictures without a memory card...thank goodness the camera has some memory built-in!)
This is one of the outdoor markets where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables and spices. Aren't the colors beautiful?
This picture is sun bleached, but this is an idea of how the whole thing looks. They also put up sun shades from the buildings making it even more cozy and farmer's market-like.

Aquí tenemos una foto de una puerta muy guay.
Here we have a foto of a really cool door.
Actually, it's mainly the really awesome door knockers that I like. They are HANDS. And well done, not creepy or badly made. The rest of the door/building isn't all that exciting. It's dilapidated and abandoned and will one day become a project for the city to restore! But for now, it is here to entertain and amuse both you and me! And don't forget, you can click on the picture for a higher resolution (aka, bigger pic). =)
And just for you trivia nuts who read this blog, in Spanish door knocker is el llamador (YA-ma-door) or la aldaba (AL-da-ba) (both fairly easy!).
