Aquí no hay playa...

Pero sí hay en Salobreña! (This is a play on the song Aquí no hay playa by Los Refrescos which is about Madrid and how it's landlocked! And this joke never gets old for me!)

This Saturday me and some of my roommates went to the beach, Salobreña,  which I visited last semester. I didn't take many pics this time, so enjoy from my last post!

To write a little more about it though, it's an hour away and a 12 euro roundtrip bus ticket from Granada. Super reasonable and a great way to get away from the dreary clouds that we've been having to deal with. The weather here has been changing from rainy and dark (fun for a few days, a week even, but after that the sun is so much more appreciated!), then sunny and a warm 60ish-65 degrees (never thought I'd describe 60 as warm - even hot!), back to a chilly 40-50 this week full of viento or wind.

But back to Salobreña (which is fun to say, pretty too!), we arrived there around noon, after being stuck in traffic for a good 20 minutes and watching some crazy hippie riding a bike on the wrong side of the highway with a wagon-full of fruit attached to the back  and waving at us in the bus and all the cars he passed by. We set up camp (and by camp I mean we laid our backpacks down and stripped to our swimsuits) and soaked up the rays for a couple hours (after applying our sunscreen of course!)

Being restless, even in the drowsy nap-inducing sunshine, I read most of this fascinating book, The Song of the Exile by Kiana Davenport, about the little known "comfort girls" of WW2 and the war's effects on Hawai'i. I normally don't cry while watching movies or reading books...but I sobbed a couple times through this one...it was that powerful and beautiful.

Then once it started getting too breezy and the sun was setting, we climbed El Peñón (a little rocky hill/cliff at the end of the beach), got some ice cream and milkshakes and went to meet the bus. A lovely day trip and excellent restorative for the spirits. =)
